Queanbeyan Community Cabinet

The NSW Government held a Community Cabinet meeting in Queanbeyan on Tuesday, 10 February 2009.

The Cabinet meeting was part of a week long NSW Government focus on issues affecting Queanbeyan.

Summary of local issues raised by the community

Priority: Transport and heavy vehicle traffic

The community participants raised issues concerning:

  • Possibility of extending Cityrail ticketing to Queanbeyan.
  • High cost of public transport when travelling between Queanbeyan and ACT.
  • Queanbeyan heavy vehicle bypass. 
  • Impact of the proposed bypass on Jerrabomberra.
  • Initiatives to increase use of freight rail and reduce the number of trucks on the road.

Priority: Ownership of Rusten House

A community participant raised the future of Rusten House (Old Queanbeyan Hospital) in Queanbeyan at the meeting:

  • Community would like the option to use the property for functions and garden parties.

Priority: Local Planning and Environment

A number of local planning and environment issues were raised at the meeting including:

  • Development of Jerrabomberra Valley and community infrastructure
  • NSW target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Proposal to build a quarry in Bungonia and the impact of the quarry on the "Old Parsonage" building.

Priority: Water Supply

The issue of water supply was raised, issues included:

  • ACTNE’s proposal to build a water pipeline from the Murrumbidgee River to the Googong Dam.  Impact of private landholders in NSW and impact on Burra Creek and London Bridge was raised.
