Biography

John was previously the Secretary of Unions NSW and Vice-President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

He has a Graduate Diploma of Human Resources through the University of Technology, Sydney and a Trade Certificate, Electrical Fitter Mechanic. 

He has a sound knowledge of the public sector, previously working as the Executive Officer for the Labor Council of NSW, with responsibility for the building and construction industry, breweries, local government, public sector policy, the oil industry and Sydney Water.

He was also a director of Energy Australia for 5 years.

Prior to that, John was an electrician and organiser for the Electrical Trades Union.

John has had a strong interest in community, and has been a Director of WorkCover NSW, the Parramatta Stadium Trust and of 2KY broadcasters.

From 2005-07 John met with and addressed thousands of NSW workers and community members in rural and regional NSW on the Your Rights at Work bus tour.

In 2006 he became a member of the NSW Heritage Council.

John has co-authored the book ‘Know Your Rights at Work’, published in 1993.

He is married with three children.
