Once in a lifetime chance to have brekkie on our bridge

31 August 2009

Premier Nathan Rees encouraged the people of NSW to register from Tuesday for the chance to be part of the first public Sydney Harbour Bridge breakfast on Sunday 25 October 2009.

“This is a once in a lifetime chance to enjoy our world famous bridge in a very special way,” said Mr Rees.

“The success of the many bridge walks is proof of how much the icon means to us all.

“Now you have the chance to be part of an historic event that will be beamed around the world.

“The public draw for the State's first ever Breakfast on the Bridge opens tomorrow.

“I would like to thank the Daily Telegraph as our media partner who will publish details for entering the draw.

“You have to live in the best state in Australia to get a chance of winning one of the 'golden draw' tickets.

“If you would like to be one of the first 6000 people - then you must register for the draw.

“Get in early and be one of the first who can say ‘I’ve had brekkie on the best bridge in the world’.

“Breakfast on the Bridge is set to become one of our most famous Sydney events and will boost our economy, tourism and jobs.

“We will not stop looking for new ways to market Sydney to the rest of Australia and the world.

“These initiatives help entice people to visit our great city and the flow on effects are worth millions of dollars to the state.

“One of the drawcards is that the bridge’s roadway will be transformed into a green park.

“Countless hours of planning and preparation have gone in to make it a day to remember.

“Living grass will turn our gateway to Sydney into our newest harbour foreshore.

“Around 10,000 squares metres of Kikuyu turf will be transported direct from a NSW grass farm and rolled out along the bridge deck.

“To create a green picnic ‘over’ the harbour, workers will take three hours and eight semi trailers to lay grass across six lanes stretching from pylon to pylon.

“The grass will also be put to good use after the event and recycled,” Mr Rees said.

To register for the free event, families need to visit www.breakfastonthebridge.com.au and follow the instructions.

You can also enter by calling 1300 825 529 and following the prompts. The draw is open till Monday 21 September 2009. Breakfast on the Bridge is part of Crave Sydney – a major new festival celebrating Sydney with 31 days of food, outdoor art and fun during the month of October.
