Premier Rees announces Parramatta live site

30 September 2009

Premier Nathan Rees, Minister for Western Sydney, David Borger and Member for Parramatta Tanya Gadiel today announced the NSW Government will host a Grand Final live site at Parramatta Stadium this Sunday.

“This is about making Parramatta the place to be on Sunday,” Mr Rees said.

“This week Parramatta isn’t just the geographical centre of Sydney - it is Sydney.”

The free NSW Government Parramatta Live Site will open at 2pm and show all of the Toyota Cup, pre match entertainment and the Grand Final on a big screen.

There will also be a kids entertainment precinct on the field including face painting and other activities.

“As soon as tickets sold out Tanya Gadiel called and we agreed that the Government had to do something to make sure everyone had the best possible Grand Final experience,” Mr Rees said.

“Both Tanya and I have never seen locals so happy, excited and proud of our team and more importantly our city.”
It is anticipated Parramatta Eels players will arrive at the Live Site after the official proceedings conclude at ANZ stadium (approx. 9.30pm).

Member for Parramatta Tanya Gadiel said that the people of Parramatta have been waiting 23 years for this moment.

“It will be great to see thousands of fans covered in blue and gold on Sunday,” Ms Gadiel.
Mr Borger encouraged Eels fans to leave their car at home or at the local train station on Sunday.

“There is only limited parking available so I encourage people to take advantage of the public transport options available,” Mr Borger said.

Parramatta Eels Chief Executive Paul Osborne said that the NSW Government Parramatta Live Site would ensure everyone gets to experience the Grand Final.

“This is great news for our fans and the people of Western Sydney,” Mr Osborne said.

A free shuttle bus will operate a return service from the Parramatta Railway Station.
