The 2023 NSW State of Volunteering report showcases the 4.3 million residents across NSW who contributed 893.9 million hours as volunteers in 2023, delivering $178 billion in benefits to the economy.
For every $1 dollar invested $5.50 is returned (or a return of 550%).
On average 4 hours per volunteer are contributed per week.
There are over 737,000 young people aged between 15 – 24 years who volunteer in NSW.
The report also showcases the characteristics of volunteers, volunteering and volunteer-involving organisations.
It contains a detailed cost-benefit analysis of the impacts of volunteering on communities in NSW.
The research presented in this report is a great reminder of how important the volunteer sector is and that government, business and the broader community continue to value, engage and invest in volunteering.
